CarGearBench

We don’t test the gear. We read the people who do — and we show our working.

Repair tools

The tools you buy once.

Tools are the easiest category on this site to judge honestly, because the important figure is usually a standard rather than a claim. A torque wrench is certified to a stated tolerance. A jack and its stands are rated to a load. A scanner either commands the car or only listens to it. Where a specification is a standard we can hold a product to it; where the box invents a number instead, we say so.

One page in this section deliberately recommends nothing. Jack stands are the category where the premise of this site fails: the 2020 recall was caused by production tooling ageing, so the specification was identical on the safe units and the unsafe ones. Where reading the numbers cannot protect you, we say so instead of picking a product anyway.
